John E. Murphy, PharmD

John Murphy is Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Science and Associate Dean for Academic and Professional Affairs at the College of Pharmacy, and Professor of Clinical, Family and Community Medicine at the College of Medicine,The University of Arizona. He served as Head of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science at the college from 1991 to 2006. He was president of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy in 2008-2009 and was president (1997-1998) and member of the Board of Directors (1994-1997) of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). Dr. Murphy has published approximately 200 papers and 60 abstracts on clinical pharmacy, pharmacy education, and clinical pharmacokinetics. In December of 2003 he received the ASHP Foundation's Award for Sustained Contributions to the Literature of Pharmacy Practice. Dr. Murphy was a Co-Director from 2000-2005 of the Arizona Clinical Research Training Program (AzCRTP), an NIH K30 Clinical Research Curriculum Award and he is an investigator on the Pharmaceutical Outcomes Core of the Arizona Center for Education and Research on Therapeutics grant. His research, teaching, and practice in the areas of clinical pharmacokinetics and therapeutic drug monitoring led him to develop and serve as editor of the text Clinical Pharmacokinetics Pocket Reference, which is now in its fourth edition.
